Rana and Real Easy Doc win the first round at the CFR!

Rana and Doc won the first round of the CFR!  We were so nervous, let me reword that, I was so nervous for Rana and was just wanting her to have a nice clean run.  It was so awesome to hear the announcer pause and then give us her time, 14.69 to take the lead!  Kassie was cheering loud and waved her little heart out when Auntie Rana took her victory lap.  Here's to hope the rest of the week continues on like this.

Rayel Robinson and Shawnes Feature aka Dutch, the Whoop Up Futurity Champion, won second in the round.  Thats right futurity...and he's at the CFR!

see all the results

I'll keep you posted on how the rest of the week goes.

We survived the futurity weekend!

Well we could not have asked for a better weekend.  The weather leading up to our event was cold and snowy and the weather after was just as bad.  I was starting to panic a little when I was in Thorsby and we were barrel racing in toques.  I kept telling myself that the forecast is calling for good temperatures our weekend.

We were totally impressed with the large turnout in the open barrel race, 180 + for Saturday and 160 + for Sunday.  The 1D saddle winner was Rayel Robinson, 2D was Courtney Primrose and Diane Skocdopole was the 3D winner.  Young Kipty Terry won the Jim Brown Memorial Scholarship.  Jim was my grandpa and education was very important to him.  Kipty has a few years before she'll need to use this!

The Futurity and Derby competition was fierce.  It seems the horses always step it up a notch and run the best times of their careers.  Rayel Robinson and Shawnes Feature were the champions in the Futurity running two 17.1's.  Awesome!  The derby winner was Maxine McKenna and Rockin Down Dash.  This was the last year for Rocky to derby so it was good note to end on for the pair.  Check out the results.

Rana was lucky enough to ride Yeah Hes Firen "Duke" in the derby.  He belongs to the 2008 World Champion Barrel Racer Brittnay Pozzi.  He carried Brittnay to this years CFR in the top spot.  Duke has been staying here since Calgary's Tour  finals and Rana has been keeping him fit.

Rana headed down to Billings, MT for the Nile Rodeo the Wednesday before the Whoop Up.  She was winning the rodeo when she left but got moved to 11th when all was said and done.

Another tidbit, Victoria Trautman is the proud new owner of Meadow Lark Dude "Keho".  The two have clicked pretty much instantly.  Vic ran him in the derby and ran her first ever 17 second run!  They tipped but who cares I was so excited for her!

This past week was somewhat of a wind down for us all.  We weaned the babies on Friday.  Saturday we started to fill the barn with the horses that we will ride over the winter months.  It looks like it'll be a busy one.  Can't wait to start jackpotting and see who I'll rodeo on next year.

Thanks for stopping by,

Rana and Real Easy Doc made the CFR!

It was a nail biter to the end but I think its official Rana has made her fourth CFR!  It was a come from behind rally that started in Morris, MB and ended in Hanna, AB.  They placed in 19 of the last 22 rodeos.  We are extremely proud of her and Doc's accomplishment.  Rana faced some heartbreak this year that you don't wish on anybody but she kept on going riding her 4 year old "Buy Joe Easy" for the of the first half of the season.  Hitch handled it like a pro and even contributed to Rana's CFR goal.  When Doc was given the green light to go Rana hit the trail.  They had a lot of ground to make up having missed some of the largest rodeo's in Canada as a team.  The couldn't afford to stub a toe.  So here we are today excited as all get out to be headed to Edmonton ~ GO RANA GO!

I'm off to Thorsby this weekend and Rana is headed to Saskatoon to get a jump on the 2010 rodeo season.  Our futurity is fast approaching and lots of work has to be done to get the pens all set up and the rest of our place ready to welcome all of our competitors.  Praying for a nice weekend with great weather!

Thanks for checking in
